Fisheries Ministry makes necessary arrangements to get the Sri Lankan fishing vessel, Kavisha Putha 03 released from the custody of Indian Coast Guard.

The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development  has taken preliminary measures to make relevant notifications to the Indian authorities in order to get released the fishermen onboard the vessel Kavisha Putha 03 arrested by the Indian Coast Guard on Indian maritime boundaries.

Hon Minister has collected relevant data from the Vessel Monitoring System and discussed the matter with the Secretary to the Ministry and Director General of the Department.

According VMS data, the arrested fishing vessel had not fished on Indian maritime boundaries. They have been arrested 150 km away from the South of India while returning from deep sea fishing. However, they have not engaged in fishing within the Indian maritime boundaries.

Thus, the Minister has given directives to prepare a detail report inserting these data and submit it to Indian authorities and the Indian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka. 

The Fisheries Ministry has already requested the Indian authorities to release the said fishermen and the joint operation committee of the India- Sri Lanka Fishermen Issue to be held on 07th April will further be informed in this regard. Thus, the Ministry expects that Sri Lankan fishers will soon be released from the Indian custody.
