China agrees to deliver technical and training assistance for fisheries and aquaculture development in Sri Lanka
 
 

Chinese Vice Minister of agriculture, Mr Chen Xiaohua and a delegation of Chinese officials met Hon Mahinda Amaraweera and the officials of the Fisheries Ministry on 05th May and engaged in bilateral talks regarding the fisheries industry.

Chinese government has been extending significant support in the development of fisheries and aquatic resources in Sri Lanka. The delegation also expressed agreement in providing technical and training assistance for the proposed marine fish hatchery in Batticaloa and the Sea Cucumber farming projects of NARA.  

Hon Minister invited Chinese investors to try the investment opportunities in Sri Lankan fisheries. 116 lagoons in coastal areas of the island are scheduled to be developed under public and private enterprises and a huge income could be earned by lagoon- associated fish breeding, also said the Minister.
