Hon State Minister leaves for Indonesia to be participated in the second international Blue Economy conference of the Indian Ocean Rim Association
 
 

The second international Blue Economy conference of the Indian Ocean Rim Association   will be held on 08th May 2017 at Jakartha, Indonesia with the participation of Ministers, scholars, economic strategic experts of many countries in the world. 

Hon State Minister in this event will discuss with many ministers and officials of multiple countries including Australia regarding the Blue Economy programme of Sri Lanka and the investment opportunities, technology and other assistance in the fisheries field. 

The worldwide adopted concept of Blue Economy was introduced for the first time to Sri Lanka by the Fisheries Ministry under the guidance of Hon State Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development.

The Blue Economy Programme was awarded to H.E the President and to the government in March 2015 by the State Minister. Many programmes under this Blue Economy programme have been scheduled aiming at fisheries, tourism and commercial development by promoting multipurpose fishery harbours and Marine fisheries related tourism.

In addition, programmes will be implemented with a view to gaining maximum economic benefits from marine resources and generating new employment opportunities in fisheries sector.

Hon State Minister also intends to make a proposal to the conference that a statement regarding the stocking of CO2 in sea bed be entered in its publication
