Australia and many other countries praise Sri Lanka’s community based management system proposed to IORA on Blue Economy
 
 

Hon State Minister’s proposal of establishing a community based management system for the achievement of development objectives has received much appreciation from many countries including Indonesia and Australia who had participated in the second conference of Indian Ocean Rim Association.

The conference was taken place in Jakartha, Indonesia from 8th-10th May and Hon State Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development with a delegation of officials represented Sri Lanka in this conference.

In his speech, Hon State Minister expressed ideas over the issue of CO2 emission and made a proposal to IORA to explore the possibility of stocking CO2 inside the deep sea bed as a preventive measure to the escalating environmental issue.

He also emphasized in his speech that community based management system is vital to the achievement of development goals of the countries adopting the Blue Economy concept. This proposal of community based management system was reported be highly appreciated, specially by Australia and the Ministers and other representatives participated in the event representing many countries in the region.
