The discussion highlighted the strong historical ties between Sri Lanka and Norway in the fisheries sector, emphasizing the importance of fostering collaboration for sustainable development.

During the meeting, the Norwegian delegation shared experiences from a recent visit to Jaffna, describing it as a beautiful region with unique cultural significance. They fondly recalled tasting authentic crab curry during the visit, reflecting the rich culinary heritage of the region.

The Minister acknowledged the long-standing collaboration between the two nations, including the pivotal role of Cey-Nor Foundation Limited, established in 1967 as a pioneering government enterprise in boat and marine equipment manufacturing. This institution, developed in collaboration with a Norwegian NGO, reflects the enduring trust and shared values between the two nations.

The discussions also explored enhancing Sri Lanka’s fisheries infrastructure, including cold room facilities, capacity building, and also focused on the efficient utilization of Sri Lanka's processing facilities to enhance productivity and value in the fisheries sector. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen ties and pursue sustainable advancements in the fisheries sector.

Furthermore, Chandrasekar extended a special invitation to the Sri Lankan diaspora in Norway to participate in the development of Jaffna, emphasizing the role of community-driven initiatives in fostering regional growth and economic advancement.

The meeting was attended by Johan Bjerkem, Second Secretary at the Norwegian Embassy in New Delhi, Private Secretary for the Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources Minister, B.K. Kolita Kamal Jinadasa.
