Minister of fisheries aquatic and ocean resources Hon. Ramalingum Chandrasekar has requested from the government to raise job opportunities for Sri Lankan fisherman in the Korean job market with the objectives of raising employment opportunities for the Sri Lankan fisherman, increasing training opportunities and upgrading their livelihood.
Minister has expressed this view at a discussion held with the ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Sri Lanka, H.E Mrs.Miyon Lee on 30th of December 2024.
Attention has been focused on developing bilateral relationship and cooperation further in relation to the management of fisheries and aquatic resources during this discussion.
Minister has commended on the continuous cooperation and strong relationship of the Republic of Korea which was extended on behalf of Sri Lanka and expressed his heart felt condolence on the plane crash which has taken place recently in South Korea.
Minister has drawn the attention of the ambassador of the Republic of Korea on the opportunities of working in partnership with the South Korean private companies for improving the operations of North sea Ltd which is owned by the state on behalf of improving the production of fishing nets of our country. Korean ambassadress has emphasized the significance of implementing a data center in the National Aquatic Research Agency (NARA) and she has expressed her confidence over the success of strengthening the aquatic resources researches and development through this project which was developed in partnership with the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIOST)
Ambassador H.E Miyon Lee has requested from the minister to pay attention to the implementation of the automated taxation system for the Colombo municipal council which was halted by the former government during this discussion.
