WhatsApp Image 2025 01 24 at 21.15.37Ramalingam Chandrasekar, Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources, met with Her Excellency Ms. Trinh Thi Tam, Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, to discuss advancing bilateral cooperation in fisheries and aquaculture.

The Ambassador highlighted the longstanding relationship between Sri Lanka and Vietnam, which dates back to 1970, as both nations approach the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties. She expressed her deep appreciation for Sri Lanka’s peaceful environment and warm hospitality, referring to the country as her second home.

As maritime nations, both parties explored opportunities for collaboration in aquaculture, including advancements in harvesting methods, breeding, and sharing technical expertise. The Vietnamese Ambassador emphasized the potential of these initiatives to enhance the fisheries sectors in both countries and requested Sri Lanka’s support in fostering such partnerships.

The Ambassador also praised Sri Lanka’s Clean Sri Lanka Project, recognizing its efforts to promote sustainability and environmental conservation. As part of the 55th anniversary celebrations, the Ambassador extended an invitation to Minister Chandrasekar to visit Vietnam, further strengthening ties between the two countries.

Dr. B.K. Kolita Kamal Jinadasa, Private Secretary to the Ministry of Fisheries, also attended the meeting, underscoring the shared commitment of both nations to deepening ties and fostering sustainable development in the fisheries and maritime sectors.
