WhatsApp Image 2025 01 29 at 14.21.57The National Fisheries Federation held its first Director Board meeting for 2025 at the Ministry Auditorium on January 28, presided over by Mr. Ramalingam Chandrasekar, Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources as the Federation’s Chairman.

Fisheries representatives from various districts across Sri Lanka participated in this significant gathering. A key highlight of the meeting was the unanimous selection of Liyanagamage Ajantha Kumara as the new General Secretary, a position that had remained vacant. His appointment is expected to strengthen the Federation’s leadership and drive its future initiatives.

The meeting also provided a platform for fisheries community leaders and board members to discuss the key challenges and problems faced by their respective regions. Minister Chandrasekar and ministry officials actively engaged in the discussions, addressing concerns and proposing solutions to ensure sustainable progress in the sector.

The event was attended by Mr. Sampath Manthrinayake, Secretary to the Ministry, Dr. B.K. Kolita Kamal Jinadasa, Private Secretary to the Minister, and Mr. Susantha Kahawatte, Director General of the Department of Fisheries, along with other senior officials.
