Deputy Minister of Fisheries, Rathna Gamage, conducted an inspection visit to the Mirissa Fishing Harbour this morning. During the visit, the Minister observed the Whale Watching Center and discussed the existing challenges related to its operations.
With an increasing number of tourists visiting the Whale Watching Center, the facility has generated significant revenue. Recognizing its potential as a key foreign exchange earner, discussions were held on enhancing the infrastructure to further attract tourists and improve basic amenities.
Additionally, the Minister inquired about the challenges faced by the fishermen operating through the Mirissa Fishing Harbour, given the high number of fishing vessels engaged in the industry.
The event was attended by Member of Parliament Arkam Ilyas, Matara District Coordinator of the Ministry U.K. Samaranayake, Chairman of Ceylon Fishery Harbours Corporation Kapila Bamunarachchi, and senior officials.
