During the 2025 Budget speech in Parliament, Deputy Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic, and Ocean Resources Rathna Gamage emphasized the unprecedented allocation for the fisheries sector, marking a significant commitment to boosting the country’s production economy.
"This is the highest allocation ever made for the fisheries industry. The government has recognized the importance of the sector by making a significant contribution to the production Economy economy. In 2024, Rs. 7,000 million was allocated for fisheries. However, in the 2025 Budget, this amount has been increased to Rs. 11,400 million, reflecting a 62.85% growth," the Deputy Minister stated during his speech in Parliament.

🔹 Rs. 200 million allocated for the development of the freshwater fishing industry
🔹 Rs. 3,000 million fuel subsidy for fishing vessels, ensuring the livelihood security of the fisheries community from October 2024 to March 2025.
