WhatsApp Image 2025 02 28 at 21.39.04Release of 60,000 fish fry into the Koggala lagoon has taken place on the 26th of February at the Kathaluwa Gurukanda landing site with the objective of increasing the fish harvest of the fishermen employed in the fishing industry

This event, which was organized as another phase of the "Desathiyaka Mahimaya" program under the patronage of the Southern Provincial Ministry of Fisheries, was attended by Deputy Minister of Fisheries Rathna Gamage, Secretary to the Southern Provincial Ministry of Fisheries Vidura Kariyawasam, Ministry officials and officials of the National Aquaculture Development Authority.

This marked an important step towards the promotion of the local fishing industry as well as environmental conservation, and it is planned to continue such programs in the future with the objective of protecting the aquaculture resources of the Koggala lagoon and improving the income of the fishermen.

Meanwhile, a "Desathiyaka Mahimaya" program organized with the patronage of the Deputy Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources, Mr. Rathna Gamage, which operates under the "Clean Sri Lanka" program, will be held from 15th of February to 02nd of March in the Habaraduwa Electoral Division of the Galle District.

This will focus on the development of infrastructure facilities that enables to ensure a better standard of living for the residents of the area, and on improving environmental sustainability and social welfare.

Accordingly, it includes road development, canal reconstruction and upgrading of rural schools and development of essential public facilities in the area.

Cooperative regional centers will be established to strengthen the community cooperation and development programs in the agricultural and fisheries sectors will be implemented with the objective of improving livelihoods. In addition, rural industries and self-employment projects will be introduced to create more economic opportunities.

Even health and hygiene will be ensured by providing health services to the public through Western and indigenous medical treatment, and urban cleanliness and waste management will be encouraged to promote a clean environment.
