Ramalingam Chandrasekar.

The SIIS marks Sri Lanka’s first fully digital platform dedicated to smart and sustainable aquaculture. It integrates advanced technologies such as Big Data analytics, Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and early warning mechanisms to enhance efficiency, strengthen disease prevention, and improve water quality management across the shrimp farming sector.

The platform provides:

* Real-time monitoring of farm conditions, including water quality parameters, disease alerts, and technical advisories.

* User-friendly mobile and web interfaces that make the system accessible to farmers at all levels.

* Seamless data connectivity between farmers, laboratories, extension officers, and policymakers, supporting evidence-based decision-making and sector-wide planning.

The launch ceremony was attended by senior FAO representatives, B. K. Kolitha Kamal Jinadasa, Secretary to the Ministry of Fisheries, Miyon Lee, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Kithsiri Dharmapriya, Chairman of NAQDA, along with other distinguished invitees.

The SIIS initiative is expected to play a transformative role in modernizing Sri Lanka’s aquaculture industry. By promoting innovation, environmental sustainability, and stronger competitiveness, it positions the shrimp sector to meet emerging global standards and market opportunities.
