WhatsApp Image 2025 11 19 at 15.15.26A delegation led by Mr. Yan Xijun, Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the Hainan Provincial People's Congress of China, met with Mr. Ramalingam Chandrasekhar, Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources, yesterday.

Here, the Deputy Director explained the support that Hainan Province can provide for the development of Sri Lanka and the procedures to be followed for it. Focusing on investment opportunities in Sri Lanka, ideas were also raised on the opportunities for developing tourism between Hainan Province and Sri Lanka.

Minister Chandrasekhar, recalling the long-standing friendly relations between Sri Lanka and China, thanked for the support provided for the development of the country. He said that he expects China to continue to support Sri Lanka's development in the future, and expressed his views on fisheries, tourism, cultural exchange programs and new economic cooperation between the two countries.

The Minister was invited to participate in the China International Consumer Goods Expo to be held in Hainan in 2026 and he expressed his gratitude for the invitation and conveyed his best wishes for the exhibition.

The Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries, Dr. B. K. Kolitha Kamal Jinadasa, the Director General of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Mr. S.J. Kahawatte, officials of the Ministry and representatives of the People's Congress of Hainan Province, China, participated in this event.
