Under the program pursued by Minister of Fisheries, Mr. Douglas Devananda, with the aim of directing the aquatic industry in inland reservoirs across the country to rapid growth and with the purpose of providing freshwater fish products suitable for consumption by consumers, Minister Douglas Devananda made an inspection tour in the Eastern Province on 09.04.2023 to find out the shortcomings in the aquatic breeding centers in the Province.

In his comments, the Minister said that the Inginiagala hatchery, which is considered the center of aquatic fish breeding in the Eastern Province, releases the fish fry needed for the internal reservoirs in many areas and many steps have been taken to expand these activities to breed the fingerlings and fry required for the reservoirs by increasing the number of ponds and expanding the size of the ponds, with the aim of providing the people with aquatic fish for consumption at a low cost.

Especially in the situation of the current fuel crisis, we as the Ministry of Fisheries are always attempting to provide a nutritious diet to the consumers by harvesting the fish resources at a low cost and this will pave the way for the fishing community to strengthen their economy.

Present on this occasion were a group of officials of National Aquaculture Development Authority attached to the Eastern Province.
