Today, the 16th of August, 2023, at the Ministry of Fisheries, the Chairman of the Fisheries Corporation Mr. D.V. Upul reported that during the past period, the price of fish has gone up rapidly due to the weather condition, off-season and the lack of South-Westerly Monsoonal wind, and by now the price is dropping rapidly.
Expressing views the Chairman stated that by now the price of a kilogram of Linno is between 400 to 500 rupees, Kelavallo is 1100 rupees, Cutlefish is 700 rupees and Balaya (Tuna) is 700 rupees.
During the past Kelavalla was sold for more than 2200 rupees and all the other varieties were sold for more than 1000 rupees and due to this reason consumers were inconvenienced. With the end of Off-Season the prices have been dropped and the consumers have been greatly relieved.
