A discussion regarding the possibility of involving Tamil diaspora exporters in exporting aquatic resources was held at the Ministry of Fisheries on 21.08.2023, with Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda, former Deputy Minister Vinayagamurthi Muralidaran (Karunaamman) and migrant exporters in attendance.
Here, the exporters pointed out that the method of bringing foreign exchange to the country by exporting the fish resources harvested by the fishermen of this country to the foreign market should be broadened and, for that end, they as exporters will take steps to extend their support at all times.
Former Deputy Minister Mr. Muralidharan expressing his views said that steps should be taken to uplift the economic condition of our fishermen by getting the support of investors or exporters in Tamil Diaz Pora to earn foreign exchange.
Mr. Douglas Devananda, the Minister of Fisheries in his comments here, said that businessmen earn a lot of money from the fish resources harvested by our fishermen and the fishermen who harvest the fish resources are economically at a very low level and pointed out to the investors that immediate steps should be taken to prepare a methodology to provide relief to them.
