Issuing a message to mark the 78th Independence Day of Sri Lanka, the Minister said that the day of independence is not only a symbolic milestone in the nation’s history, but also a solemn pledge towards a future renaissance.

“Under the governance of the National People’s Power, true freedom will be firmly established throughout the country. Very soon, the people will experience an environment where the true spirit of freedom can be genuinely felt,” the Minister noted.

He further emphasized that freedom does not belong to those in power, but to the people themselves. “There will be no space under our administration for freedom to be misused for personal or political gain. Freedom exists for the people, and it must be safeguarded as such,” he said.

The Minister also highlighted that special attention is being given to ensure peaceful and dignified living conditions for communities in the war-affected Northern and Eastern regions, enabling people to live freely and without fear.

He added that this special day would serve as a significant milestone in the country’s journey towards renewal, while also strengthening unity among all Sri Lankans.

“Respecting, protecting and nurturing freedom is our collective responsibility,” the Minister concluded.
