Minister of Fisheries Douglas Devananda instructed the Director General of Fisheries Department Mr. Susantha Kahawaththa to suspend the issuance of prior-approval temporarily, for the import of canned fish with effect from 11-01-2024. To uplift the local Canned Fish industry.

On 10-01-2024 at the Ministry, the Minister of Fisheries Douglas Devananda discussed with the officials of the ministry and NAQDA institute regarding the Strategic Plan prepared by the Ministry of Fisheries and National Aquatic Resources Development Authority on the instruction of the Minister to develop the Freshwater Fishing industry in 2024.
