lZIzp2DzcZgRU7OVAA world fisheries dayThe International Fisheries Day, which falls on November 21, each year, is held very successfully by the Ministry of Fisheries every year with the participation of the Sri Lankan community. The theme of the Fisheries day for this year is “Highlighting the critical importance of healthy ecosystems & to ensure sustainable fish stocks in the world".

The Ministry of Fisheries has organized to hold an art competition for International Fisheries Day on November 21, 2023.

The aims of this art competition are broadening the views of the people about the fishing industry, highlighting the critical importance of the fisheries system from the school and polishing the creative ideas about the fisheries industry in the children.

For this competition, students from schools studying from grade 8 to grade 12 can apply. They will have the opportunity to present their paintings by drawing what they feel by choosing to do a painting on one of these themes. The themes are  “Ocean is a Resource”, The life of the Fisheries Folk “ and “Our Fishermen”.

The winners of this competition will be awarded cash prizes of Rs.75,000/=, Rs.50,000/= and Rs.25,000/= for the first, second and third places respectively. Furthermore, The Ministry of Fisheries has decided to award 10 excellence awards of Rs.5000 for each and Rs.1000 10 merit awards of Rs.1000 for each.

Ministry of Education, Ministry of Mass Media and Social Media are official sponsors of this drawing competition.

The deadline for accepting paintings is 05th of November 2023 and before that date, these paintings should be sent to the following address: Ministry of Fisheries, New Secretariat, Maligawatta, Colombo 10. It should be mentioned as (International Fisheries Day - Drawing Competition 2023 ) on the upper left corner of the envelope or parcel in which the paintings s are sent.
