A huge amount of foreign currency is earned from fish exports and it is the duty and responsibility of all exporters to have that money duly channelled to the country at a time when the country is facing a huge crisis, Minister of Fisheries, Mr. Douglas Devananda said at a discussion with the fish exporters at the Ministry of Fisheries on 20.03.2023.

State Minister of Fisheries, Mr. Piyal Nishantha Silva says prices of fishing gear which increased by several fold recently will come down by some degree in the next few months.

A special discussion on the damage caused to the fishery industry in Sri Lanka due to illegal fishing activities and the measures that should be taken to stop it was held in Kachchathiv Island on 06.03.2023 under the chairmanship of the Minister of Fisheries Mr. Douglas Devananda with the participation of the representatives of the Northern Fishermen's Associations and the representatives of the Indian Fishermen's Associations.
