Despite the Ministry of Public Administration declaring Wednesdays as public holidays amid the ongoing fuel crisis, essential services of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources will continue to function without interruption.

Given that the fishing industry operates around the clock, the Quality Control Sub-Office, all Port Operations Offices, Radio Communication Centres, and the Vessel Monitoring Unit at Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake, will remain open as usual. This ensures that fishermen, vessel owners, and fish exporters working at sea can access necessary services seamlessly.

Director General of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Mr. Susantha Kahawatte, stated:
“Even during the government holiday period, our primary objective is to continue delivering essential services efficiently, without causing any disruption to the fishing industry, while maintaining full operational support.”

This measure is expected to safeguard the continuous supply of fish, uphold fisheries safety standards, and ensure the smooth functioning of export activities across the island.
