Fisheries Minister Mr. Douglas Devananda instructed the officials to take necessary measures to completely stop the illegal fishing activities such as those using light courses, cache nets etc. carried out by fishermen using the ocean in this country.
Mr. Douglas Devananda stated that the relevant lands for aquaculture projects in the country should be identified scientifically to avoid unnecessary delays in the implementation of those projects and efforts should
be made to promote aquatic aquaculture among the people.

The operations of Oluwil Harbour, which has been transformed into a Fishery Harbour, are presently conducted very successfully and signing of the agreement for the construction of a factory took place at the Ministry of Fisheries on 02/07/2023 after discussions held on several occasions between Tess Private Company and the Minister of Fisheries Mr. Douglas Devananda to start a canned tin fish factory using the surplus fish stocks landed at the Harbour.
