Today ( 2023-01-20), the Indian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. S. Jayashankar had discussions with Fisheries Minister Mr. Douglas Devananda and Ministry Officials, regarding the illegal Fishing activities and the encroachment of Sri Lankan territorial waters by Indian multiple-day fishing boats.

The marine resources and environment of Sri Lanka are getting damaged due to the illegal and forced fishing carried out by Indian multi-day fishing vessels in Sri Lanka's marine area.
The follow-up review whether the instructions given for the completion of works at Hambantota, Kuduwella, Gandara, Galle, Mirissa, Beruwala, Maradana, Peraliya, Dodanduva and Panadura harbours in the southern province have been properly implemented took place at the Ministry of Fisheries on the 9th under the chairmanship of the Minister of Fisheries, Mr. Douglas Devananda.
