Today, the 16th of August, 2023, at the Ministry of Fisheries, the Chairman of the Fisheries Corporation Mr. D.V. Upul reported that during the past period, the price of fish has gone up rapidly due to the weather condition, off-season and the lack of South-Westerly Monsoonal wind, and by now the price is dropping rapidly.
At the discussion with the representatives of Sri Lanka Aquatic Culture Development Association held on 11-08-2023 at the Fisheries Ministry, the Minister of Fisheries Douglas Devananda stated that all the necessary state support will be provided to develop the prawn industry which brings the highest foreign exchange income to the country next to Tea, rubber, and coconut that are the major export crops. The officials of NAQDA, NARA, and the Fisheries Department attended this discussion.
At the discussion held at the Auditorium of the Fisheries Ministry on 10-08-2023, Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda stated that all the necessary actions will be taken promptly in order to stop the illegal method of fishing using dynamites and other explosives.
