With the objective of empowering communities engaged in both marine and inland fisheries in the Southern Province, a series of special programs were held on March 13 in the Matara and Galle districts to distribute fishing gear and fish crates valued at Rs. 8.6 million.

The primary objective of the visit was to repair and return outrigger fishing boats that were partially damaged by the cyclone through the Cey-Nor Foundation, and to distribute new boats and nets with the support of the National Aquaculture Development Authority (NAQDA). At the event, held at the Old District Secretariat in Batticaloa, aid valued at Rs. 26.9 million was distributed among 16 fishing societies.

In line with the program to provide Rs. 26.9 million in relief to the Batticaloa fishing community affected by Cyclone “Ditwa,” the Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources, Hon. Ramalingam Chandrasekar, on the 11th, conducted a special inspection tour of the Valachchenai Fishery Harbour.
