Taking a decisive step towards resolving the infrastructure problems faced by the fishing community in the Northern and Eastern provinces, the Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources, Hon. Ramalingam Chandrasekar, said that, Cabinet of Ministers has approved a provision of Rs. 1127.5 million for the improvement of the Valachchenai Fishery Harbour.

A special workshop was held in Ampara yesterday (19th of August, 2025) to mark the successful completion of the “Technical Cooperation Project” implemented to enhance the aquaculture sector in Ampara district under the financial contribution of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
A special meeting was held at the Parliament complex between the Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Marine Resources, Mr. Ramalingam Chandrasekar, and the Deputy Ambassador of the Netherlands to Sri Lanka, Mr. Iwan Rutjens. The Secretary to the Ministry of Fisheries, Aquatic and Marine Resources, Dr. B.K. Kolitha Kamal Jinadasa, was also present at the occasion.
