Following discussions with the President on the current national situation, Dr. B. K. Kolitha Kamal Jinadasa, Secretary to the Ministry of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources, stated that all essential services related to the fisheries sector will continue without interruption.

The appointment ceremony for these officers, recruited to the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, was held yesterday (24) morning under the patronage of Minister Chandrasekhar.

A special programme to provide relief to fishermen in the Chilaw district was held today (March 23, 2026) at the Chilaw Fishery Harbour, under the government’s extensive relief package of Rs. 865.79 million aimed at uplifting the fishing community impacted by Cyclone ‘Ditwa’, which struck in November 2025.
