In line with the ‘Ratam Ekata’ national campaign, the Ministry of Fisheries and its affiliated institutions successfully carried out a series of comprehensive awareness programmes in the Southern Province under “Poisonous Drug Prevention Week,” which commenced on 01 March, with the objective of preventing the use of fishing vessels for drug trafficking.

With the aim of transforming the Ceylon Fisheries Corporation into a profitable institution while ensuring the public can purchase fish products at subsidized prices during the upcoming Sinhala and Hindu New Year, a special progress review meeting was held today (06) at the Fisheries Corporation premises under the patronage of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources Minister Ramalingam Chandrasekar and Deputy Minister Ratna Gamage.

The Director General, Susantha Kahawatte, states that the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources is paying special attention to the safety of Sri Lankan multi-day fishing vessels operating in international waters, due to the military situation that has arisen near and in the Gulf region.
