Issuing a media release recently, the Minister of Fisheries Douglas Devananda stated that countries such as India, China, and Japan have come forward to provide more than 4900 million rupees of financial assistance for the development of Northern Province and we should utilize this money for development of North in a proper manner.
A discussion with regards to the above issue was held at the Ministry of Fisheries on 13.03.2024 under the chairmanship of the Minister of Fisheries, Mr. Douglas Devananda, with a group of representatives of the Association of Fish Exporters and the Association of Multi-Day Fishing Vessel Owners.
Although the Tamil Nadu government had requested the Sri Lankan government to allow Indian fishermen to fish in Sri Lankan waters, the Minister of Fisheries, Mr. Douglas Devananda, has strongly rejected it.
