The Minister of Fisheries, Mr. Douglas Devananda, expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased regarding the tragic deaths that took place in the multi-day vessel, Devon-5 bearing the registered boat number IMULA0909TLE, due to its fishermen consuming a solution from a bottle floating in the sea.
Necessary arrangements are being made to obtain 1000 million rupees from the government to immediately repair the shortcomings in the fishery harbours from Kirinda to Panadura by the Minister of Fisheries after his observation tour made on 28.06.2024 to observe the fishery harbours in the South.
Mr. Douglas Devananda, Minister of Fisheries, who was engaged in observing activities in a number of fishery harbours in the Southern Province on 29.06.2024 stated that the construction work of Gandara fishery harbour, which is currently being built in the Southern Province, would be completed this year facilitating the fishermen to go fishing at sea.
