The 16th District Fisheries Coordination Committee meeting was successfully held at the Anuradhapura District Secretariat under the patronage of the Deputy Minister of Fisheries, Hon. Rathna Gamage with the aim of identifying the problems faced by the inland fisheries community in the Anuradhapura District and providing prompt solutions to them.

The Ministry of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources has decided to launch an extensive, joint program to curb illegal fishing, which has become a serious threat to the ocean resources of Sri Lanka and the sustainability of the fishing industry.

Taking a decisive step towards resolving the infrastructure problems faced by the fishing community in the Northern and Eastern provinces, the Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources, Hon. Ramalingam Chandrasekar, said that, Cabinet of Ministers has approved a provision of Rs. 1127.5 million for the improvement of the Valachchenai Fishery Harbour.
